Its now the end of June, shortly it is going to be the beginning of July and we all know what is in store! A new iPhone model is getting ready to become available to consumers on, the 24th of June.
Already the iPhone 4 has it’s fair share of drama around the release, some of it started as early as Apr of 2010. In early Apr, Gizmodo employee Jason Chen bought a then top secret iPhone 4 prototype model from a unknown source for the price of $5,000. Gizmodo.com held extensive coverage of the iPhone 4 and even was discussed on mainstream reports channels like FoxNews and MSNBC. His home was later raided by the California Rapid Enforcement Allied Computer Team and had his PCs seized. The reason for the raid on his domicile was something to do with commercial espionage; but how could you be guilty of that if all that you’re doing is purchasing something? You are not nicking it so whats the problem.
Then when the iPhone was available for pre order online, the system crashed after over 600,000 preorders had been registered. Not only that, ATTs systems were victims of security breaches and folk were accessing other peoples accounts accidentally, and being able to see and edit other purchasers information. Many are reporting that AT&T shops being closed over the quantity of folks attempting to preorder and the stress of ATTs systems being far too overloaded. ATT in the end had to close off the pre-ordering system due to mass confusion and problems. What they really needed was mobile computer repair Burnsville for their computer network.
Mashable reporter Sam Axon reported being mugged while standing in line for the iPhone earlier today in Chicago. He posted on Twitter the following “I was just mugged while waiting in line for the iPhone 4. Not kidding.” What’s this world coming to? And finally, there are reports abound of the iPhone 4 having issues with its hardware. Gizmodo has let slip that the phone drops calls if a finger is placed on a certain small spot on the lower left side of the body. It turns out that you can bridge 2 antenna with your finger and that will cause the telephone to drop calls. The solution is as simple as a miniscule piece of scotch tape, or put the telephone in a case. Its a straightforward fix but for $500 should this truly be an issue?
There is also real proof that the screen of the iPhone 4 has issues with yellow pixels, bands and splotches on the screen from ordinary use. Most likely Apple won’t mend the problem for free and will claim that the user damaged the LCD themselves. Again, should this be an issue at release or should it have been resolved before the very expensive device was sold to the public? Sony learned that lesson some time ago with a huge recall for digital camera repair to fix the CCD sensor on millions of cameras consumers had purchased.
Apple has a record of making awesome products, but with the certainty that the iPhone 4 was going to be as well liked as it is, they should have put more thought and time into testing and development. It’s much simpler to handle design issues before you put item into mass production than it is to handle them after the consumer has bought the item. You don’t want to have to provide millions of buyers with home computer repair Prior Lake after the fact. We will have to wait and see if the people at Apple will remember this experience when producing new gadgets in the future.
